I PLEAD WITH THE NIGERIAN STUDENTS

I plead with the Nigerian students not to get frustrated, angry and depressed, especially those in the higher institutions. Even though the strike is getting too long, they should not make any erratic decision.

I am using this medium to let you know that, you can make use of this time to study for exams, discover yourself, outline on paper your vision and goals, state with specific time when you want to achieve your stated goals and learn new skills.

You can learn some skills by working, interning and volunteering with a group, company, NGO, etc. Use this time wisely, instead of loitering around, stealing, meeting unnecessary friends, getting involved in illegal activities and outings.

This time is very sensitive, because some people might want to use or lure you into illegal activities. Please take note of the following points below:

-          Inform someone responsible about your whereabouts

-          Avoid following strangers

-          Dress appropriately (mistaken identity can lead you to be a victim of jungle justice, raiding by security officials, harassment and rape)

-          Be content with what you have, don’t try to copy others in their crave for wealth, thereby living above your means

-          Get close to God

-          Be knowledgeable; study books, get a mentor, attend seminars, etc

-          Strive for excellence

-          Remember every action or decision you make has a consequence or consequences

-          Be wise

To the government and ASUU, I ask that you settle this issue of once and for all.

To parents, guardians and counselors, please use this opportunity to spend quality time with the youths and lead them in the right direction.

To security officials, please protect and defend the youths. Don’t assume, accuse and prosecute the youths wrongly.

Gracias
